I’m proud that every time I’ve run for City Council I’ve been enthusiastically endorsed by both our police officers and our firefighters.  Public safety really matters:  Nothing else our city does is more important than making sure you and your family are safe.

In a fire, medical emergency, or community disaster, we know we can rely on our Santa Monica Fire Department.  We have brought our 911 services back in house, after trying a consolidation with Los Angeles, because our firefighters insisted on faster local response times — to serve you better.

Our new neighborhood-oriented police patrol plan means you have a dedicated Neighborhood Resource Officer, your personal contact at the Santa Monica Police Department.  Click here to meet yours!  You can also now access visually-mapped online reports of police activity in your own neighborhood or anywhere in our city.

Having our first responders live near by means that in an earthquake or other emergency the people we count on are already in our community, ready to put their courage and their training to immediate use.  I’ve proposed a way to do that as part of our new 2013-2021 Housing Element.
