Dialogue is the lifeblood of a democracy, and along with Sun columnist Susan Wilson (and several Councilmembers) I lament the lack of respectful dialogue which characterized the St. John's development agreement. An institution asking for 55 years of a neighborhood's future should negotiate openly and sincerely with our residents and the elected officials who represent them.

I'm glad St. John's will be a part of Santa Monica. The pros and cons of the compromises reached will be forever arguable. I remain disturbed that any institution can steamroller our community process with such successful impunity.
