All the diversity and vitality that make Santa Monica so special to us depend on our being able to feel safe as we participate in our community. We have truly excellent police and fire departments, and a city with an enviable public safety record overall. 1998's gang violence brought a new focus on public safety to Santa Monica. The events of last September 11th add another threat. The dangers are real, but Santa Monica is prepared. Help our youth grow away from gangs by supporting education and economic opportunity for everyone in Santa Monica. A caring community becomes a safe city.
