Santa Monica

Councilmember Kevin McKeown

In California, a renter can be given as little as three days to vacate, with a so-called “three day notice to quit.” Renters deserve more stability, and landlords should show more civility.

Based on a recent court case, I think we in Santa Monica can do better.  I’ve suggested a seven day warning be required first for most evictions, giving renters a fair chance to fix the problem.

My recommendation became part of November 2010’s Measure RR, which passed.  See the details of new protections afforded to all Santa Monica renters, thanks to your vote for RR.
