Santa Monica

Councilmember Kevin McKeown

Santa Monica doesn’t have public financing of races for Council, but we’re generous in publishing every candidate’s ballot statement and giving CityTV production and time.

This means residents give $15,000 to every candidate, even those running for their

own ego with no support nor
real chance of winning.

Should we have candidates
somehow qualify themselves

by showing resident support?

I’ve long been a supporter of true campaign finance reform, with appropriate public financing of campaigns to remove disproportionate outside interest influence.  Please see more here.
